In the Western world, many people feel themselves to be in the realm of the blessed because their sensory and material wants are satisfied. They have possessions of a materially-oriented goal. And yet, many people having this material blessing and spiritually tormented. In the East, the consciousness derives from a different foundation. Material possessions are considered empty things unless they are accompanied by a spiritually-oriented attitude towards them. If you have the blessing of riches and a comfortable life, you will, of course, enjoy them. But you must not think that these are the things that will ultimately bring you peace of mind. Peace of mind come when you are freed from emotionally upsetting states. All emotions are ego-centered. The need to find deliverance from ego-centered activity brings one to the Spiritual Path.
